Following the steps listed below to get registered:
1. Parents or students initiate by sending an email to cvmsml08@gmail.com - we try to limit the email address error during the transition from handwriting to typing, as we had, in the process of last year's registration.
Your email should include the names and the emails of both the student and his/her parents. While you are on CVMS math league's email list, we will update you All the information during 2009-2010 school year.
2. Come to Math League Information Night on Tuesday, Sept. 29, (6:30 to 7:30), 2009 at CVMS Media Center. You will be required to submit a registration form for your child, with a payment of $35 dollars to cover the contest registration fees and other activity costs.
3. If parents don't have time to come to the Parent Information Night, you could do one of the followings:
- Encourage your child to come to the Math League Club day on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009 during the lunch period. The registration form will be distributed and the related information will be presented to interested students.
- Down load the registration form from the first page of this website. After filling it, you could drop the form with a payment of $35 (payable to CVMS PTSA) into the Math League Mail Box displaced in the front office.

If you are a math lover and think you could contribute one lesson, two lessons, or any required presences, PLEASE SHARE YOUR TALENT with Us -We Really Need You- by contact the math league cvmsml08@gmail.com; If you are not familiar with math but would like to share your time being with your children, WE NEED YOU and YOUR CHILDREN NEED YOU. You can help to assist your children by setting up contests, grading, awards, and cleaning up.
Participating your children school activities are rewarding to you and it means lot to your children too!
MathCounts is one of the major contests for middle school students nation-wide. The MathCounts club is organized by CVMS math department and is operates at a different school day. MathCounts focus on MathCounts problems, and the contests run by the Math League cover a wide range of contents and formats. The Math League High School contests and the contests of AMC series will be continued into high school, such as Torrey Pine and CCA. Therefore participating in the Math League gives CVMS students advantage of an early start. The final contestants in MathCounts are only limited to 8 students, and every participate in Math League can be the contestant, and one can monitor his/her progress over the span of one year. Participating in MathCounts and Math League are mutually benefitial.
The CVMS Math League website: http://www.cvmsml.com – still in the process of construction, will be our central information and communication channel for both the students and their parents. The website will post calendars of activities, lessons, practices and contests. Students and parents are highly encouraged to check the website for assignments and practices, as well as the type and date of the contests.
More than 80 CVMS students from both 7th and 8th grade last year joined the club. Some left but majority stay till the end.
CVMS Students won 1st place in numerous math competitions in the regional and the California State.
There are total about 17 contests during the 2009-2010 school year. Some of the contests are challenging but the most suit middle school students. There is no penalty by scoring wrong, scoring 1 right, or scoring 0. Every participant will learn and benefit from participating.
Math League activity takes place on Tuesday during the lunch period from 12:20 to 12:50 pm (on most days), or 12:20 to 1:10 pm (on certain contests days) in the middle school classrooms - the exact rooms for the contests are listed on the student calendar.
For certain contests, such as AMC 10 and California High School contests, which are required to be done on official days, an additional contest will be administered at after school hour - please see the student calendar.
Participants increase their reasoning and problem solving skills. Certain AMC scores are qualified to be further selection to higher level contests. Qualification of AMC10 and AMC12 could be used as extra curriculum for college admission.
PTSA sponsors and Teachers/Parents/Students operate the Math League as an extracurricular program.
